Letter of Recommendation for

Kirill Osenkov

I first met Kirill Osenkov when he entered Kharkiv National University in July 1999. I, as a dean of department of Mechanics and Mathematics, interviewed him. Kirill did not have entrance examinations. This right for him was granted by his 3rd place on all-Ukrainian Junior Academy of Science development contest, branch of computer science.

At the University Kirill has chosen "Applied mathematics" specialty, because of his primary interest in programming and computer science. He has revealed particular interest in geometry, computer science and discrete mathematics, having highest marks on all related subjects. During his last, third, year at the University, Kirill got only the highest marks on all the subjects. Unfortunately, he had to leave the University September 2002, because his family moved to Germany. Kirill proved to be a successful, enterprising and hard-working student, active programmer and investigator, always eager to learn and improve his knowledge and skills.

Kirill manages to successfully apply all his knowledge to research and creative activity. For the last three years he was a lead programmer and designer at the DG group (team at Kharkiv State Pedagogical University leaded by KSPU vice-rector Sergey A. Rakov, rakov_s@ukr.net). There he successfully completed large 3-year project for Ukrainian schools "DG dynamic geometry package". Kirill also carried on research activity at our University, where his work "Computer modeling and investigation of polyhedra" was supervised by Vasiliy A. Gorkaviy (gorkaviy@ilt.kharkov.ua). Kirill developed interactive polyhedron modeling environment together with important theoretical elaboration on data-structures and algorithms connected with polyhedron representation on a computer.

Besides regular academic work and research activity, Kirill actively participated in conferences, seminars and programming contests (especially all-Ukrainian conferences on technology in science and education: MicroCAD-2000 and ITONT-2002). In May 2001 Kirill represented our University at the all-Ukrainian programming contest, where he was awarded by the prize for "originality and creative approach". In February 2002 he won the annual all-Ukrainian software-developed-by-students contest "Ecosoft-2002" in Kyiv.

At the University and the DG Group Kirill acquired a successful combination of professional and personal qualities. Theoretical researcher's way of thinking, strive for systematization and generalization, creative approach to solving problems are excellently combined together with knowledge of modern programming technologies and 4-years experience in professional software development (Kirill is especially fascinated by the field of computer modeling). Experience of working in a group caused such his personal qualities, as being communicative and friendly member of a tight team, responsible, active and initiative. That is why I would like to recommend Kirill Osenkov as a creative and enthusiastic person, as well as a skillful programmer and researcher.
