School

I have always been active and eager to learn. At school I was very successful and got always (OK, almost always ) the best notes, being especially strong in mathematics, computer science and english language.

In 1998 I won the third place at the all-ukrainian school English language contest.

Computer science

Together with my friends we were fascinated with computers. I have understood that my life will be tightly connected with IT. School program didn’t satisfy my “knowledge-hunger”, and I became a member of the Junior Academy of Science of Ukraine, an organization of young school student researchers. I was particularly interested in programming under Windows and I started a new project connected with system programming. My initiative was to develop an alternative file manager, a replacement for Windows Explorer with additional multimedia features. In one year I succeeded and my project won the third place at the all-Ukrainian project competition, winning a special prize for usefulness and practical meaning.

I finished school with all notes "excellent", except for "good" in chemistry and ukrainian language . My success at the Junior Academy of Science allowed me to choose any University in Ukraine and to bypass entrance examinations.

University

I chose to study Mathematics to gain that special way of thinking of mathematicians - ability to see analogies, to generalize and to work with abstract models.

At Kharkiv National University I took active participation in conferences, submitted papers, carried out some scientific work, published articles.

Development of educational software

My favourite three: mathematics, programming and education

My main activity beside studies was the development of a dynamic geometry software at the State Pedagogical University. This was an interactive learning environment for support of school geometry course on demand of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Together with the vice-rector for IT we initiated this project in 1999 – he had methodological ideas, and I had the idea how to implement them. After three years of fruitful cooperation, team work, seminars and conferences, we succeeded to bring a new competitive product to the market of educational software of Ukraine.

I was the only programmer of the project and I had full responsibility connected with the software itself.

Success

The project was successfully finished just in time, certified by the State Certification Commission (Ukrainian Scientific Center for State Registration and Certification of Information Technologies, www.softrating.com.ua), and officially recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for usage in schools of Ukraine. 1500 copies of the software along with accompanying learning materials, textbooks and methodological recommendations are now being used in mathematics lessons in ukrainian schools.

From Ukraine to Germany

After three years of studying applied mathematics in Ukraine I had the possibility to move to Germany to study computer science. I have all necessary mathematical foundations now and I can effectively dedicate myself to applications of theoretical knowledge.

As a result I want to become a good applied computer science specialist with strong theoretical background.
